Introduction

Laura is a retired non-profit manager and Eldon has had careers in industry, government and business. We are both homeowners and house sitters (nine years) so we know the process from both sides. We have been fortunate in the past to find fabulous sitters and are looking for more nice, friendly folks to mind our house and love our cat while we travel to Nova Scotia and PEI.

We expect that you will have references and some cat care experience. We are smoke-free, fragrance-free and mostly chemical-free and ask that you respect these parameters. Unscented personal care and cleaning products are supplied. We enjoy a clean and organized home and expect that you do too.

House sit 1: We would like you to arrive anytime on August 8th and leave anytime on August 11th. Or, you may wish to overnight on the 11th. We will depart early on August 9th and arrive home early evening on the 11th.

House sit 2: We would like you to arrive September 5th and leave anytime on September 14th, or overnight on the 14th.

We like to have a video chat with applicants before choosing a sitter.

Home & Location

Overlooking a picturesque harbor, our home is a comfortable, sun-filled bungalow with all the modern amenities. It is located in a very quiet, rural area (but not isolated) 45 minutes outside the capital city of Fredericton which has a full range of services and entertainment options. There is a small town twenty minutes away which has one of everything: grocer, pharmacy, bank, hardware store, etc.

This is cottage country and the lake is very busy with water-related activities.

The air-conditioned home has two bedrooms, two baths, dedicated workspace with good WiFi, 2 satellite TVs, BBQ, and a 1500 book library. There is a weekly lawn service.

The front of the house has a shady verandah, while the back has a sunny patio for al fresco dining.

There is a convenience store / gas bar / canteen within walking distance. Bertie's Cafe is about 1 km away and offers delicious sandwiches, pizza, sweets and gourmet coffees.

Scotchtown Farm Market is nearby and offers fresh veggies and baked goods.

Enjoy Saturday breakfast at the community hall and adjacent craft market. Recreational activities at the hall include pickleball, boot camp, yoga, bridge and other card games.

Sandy beach access is 3 km away. Beach mats, chairs and towels are provided.

There is one bike and helmet for your use; Bertie's Cafe has bike rentals, electric and manual.

A nine-hole golf course is a short drive away and you can borrow our golf cart.

The sitters will be staying in Roxie's room. There is a comfortable queen bed and an adjacent bathroom with tub/shower. There is ample closet and drawer space for your use and good bedside reading lamps.

There is abundant wildlife to be seen on the six-acre property such as, deer, fox, sometimes coyotes, raccoons and occasional moose as well as feathered friends. Binoculars supplied!

A comprehensive Welcome Guide is provided to sitters upon selection and an updated guide is available upon arrival.

Responsibilities

The priority is our precious cat. Yes, we are ridiculous pet parents:) Roxie is a sweet, gentle, playful and cuddly cat. She is an indoor cat but enjoys time outside in her catio. She needs the usual cat care: feeding, petting, chatting, playing, cleaning litter box and most importantly, lots and lots of cuddles. She may want to sleep with you so that has to be okay with you. She frowns upon closed doors.

She can be left alone for several hours so you are free to explore during the day. She sleeps a lot.

She has feline asthma and uses an inhaler twice a day. She is very compliant with its use and all of our sitters have been able to administer the inhaler without a problem. She needs eye drops twice a day and is getting better handling this insult on her person.

We would like daily updates and pictures of Roxie.

We are stewards of a Little Free Library, so it would be great if you could restock the shelves during your stay.

Put out trash and recycle bins, water a few indoor / outdoor plants and pick up mail.

Enjoy the home, please leave it as you found it, have fun exploring the area, and be kind to our wild critters.

Brief Reviews from Summer Housesitters:

The house is bright, spotlessly clean and comfortable, with a lake view from most rooms, including our bedroom. The kitchen is well outfitted for cooking anything. The neighbourhood is so nice too – we went to the local beach one day, watched the sailboats, and I practiced yoga in the community centre with the friendly locals. - Lisa and Dan from Canada

The perfect house sit..so relaxing with an abundance of purr therapy. If we could give it ten stars we would!!! - Glen and Alice from Canada

Laura & Eldon are wonderful, caring people & they both have a great sense of humor. They generously shared meals with us & loaned us the use of their car. - Bill and Ginger from USA
