We live in a rural area of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Southern rim of the Rock Castle Gorge, a few thousand yards from the Blue Ridge escarpment, on an old 66 acre farm with rolling hills, heritage apple trees and woods dotted with mountain laurel and rhododendron.
It's a timber lovely frame home, built in 2011, with 3 BR and 3.5 baths, wifi, TV and stereo system, lots of deck, porches, patio, gas grill, double door fridge, whole house backup generator with automatic switches, dishwasher, washer, dryer, covered walkway to garage, and lots of peace and quiet.
Near Floyd VA, a site on Virginias Crooked Road music trail, four miles from iconic Mabry Mill and surrounded by wooded hills and magnificent views. We are at 3186' elevation, and winters can be cold up here. We have electric heat pumps plus propane gas heating when it is colder than 35F outside, a 20KW gennie and a Woodstock Soapstone Stove in the great room and plenty of split, stacked oak firewood in case it gets frigid, as it often does in February. It's a wonderful place to relax, and especially for those who like clear nights with excellent star-gazing, you won't find a better spot. There's no light pollution, just you, the constellations and an amazing night sky overhead.
Nearest town is the fabulous Floyd VA, a wonderful town of artists, shops, music and arts venues, and entertainment. We have 66 acres of fields and woods, wonderful for long walks and spectacular view. This is an absolutely unforgettable place, but if you've not spent part of the winter in the hills of southwest Virginia at about 3,200 elevation, this may not be the sit for you. Wait for a Spring, Summer or Fall housesit. But if you don't mind cold weather and the chance to get away from it all, this might be just your ticket to winter splendor!
