About this house sitting position in Mt Fox
House - Large furnished modern 3 bedroom home, on 11ha.
Power, phone and internet all connected. Wood and electric oven and hotwater, wood fireplace and oil heaters.
No smoking allowed in the house.
Block is mostly natural bush including rainforest. We have vegetable and herb gardens and 2ha of mixed fruit orchard including stone fruit, citrus, apples, figs, and many tropicals (mango, lychee, rolliana, carabola, sapodi etc) and 2 x ~1ha fenced improved pasture paddocks.
Area for caravan if desired, but access wouldn't suit a really big van or RV.
Location: Mt Fox up the mountains ~55 km (1 hr drive mostly bitumen) south west behind Ingham which is 3hr south of Cairns and 1hr north of Townsville.
Ingham is the nearest shops.
So while we are in north Queensland, being in the mountains the area is beautifully cool at night most of the year and we enjoy sitting near the fire at night for 4 months of the year.
Tasks:
- turn the taps to the irrigation on and off if we do or don't get rain; rest is automatic.
- apply biological pesticides (i.e. chilli spray) if needed on fruit trees and herbs.
- some weeding
You are welcome be eating from the gardens.
Pets: sorry no cats as we have too many birds and other wild life, dogs are OK if kept out of the house and in the large house yard, and kept confined at night (to protect the paddy melons, bettons and banicoots)
You are welcome to can bring your own horse, there are some beautiful quiet roads and forestry track in the area for riding. You may need to supplement with hay depending on the season. Hay can ususally be purchased up here. Read more...
