Looking for a house and pet sitter for 2 cats, one dog, and two self sustaining fish tanks that just need an eye kept on them. The garden is going to be bursting with fresh veggies to eat, so if you like you can have a great meal most any night... Tending of the garden would be appreciated, but it's certainly not a requirement. The rustic old house has a new bathroom and bedroom addition that are generally more cool than the rest of the non-a/c house and is located next to a swimming pond in a nice little intentional community 5 minutes from the town of Floyd, VA, and two minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The time period needed is from around July 31 - August 15th, though the neighborhood community members can do some caretaking on either end of the trip as needed or come a day or two early and get an introduction to the pace directly!
For those who are not familiar with the area, Floyd offers a serene Appalachian mountain setting with small town charn.
Our two cats are easy going and mostly hang out in the yard hunting defenseless critters, while our Corgi-shelty dog, Puck, is very personable and unfortunately freaks out in thunderstorms. He just needs a little extra love. They are all generally free twice a day. The fish tanks are on timers for pretty much everything, so unless the power goes out, they just make nice places to visit. If the power does go out (it rarely does) we can work on it from there.
The garden is pretty sizeable and I'm kinda bummed to be leaving when everything will be popping... Peppers, corn, green beans, melons, more tomatoes than a person should have, and plenty more. Other community members will probably harvest some as well.
I do have a lot of houseplants that would need to be watered once while I am gone, though they are outside and if it rains, they'll be grand on their own.
A window a/c unit is available if things get desperate. The neighbors are all great (of course, I'm biased). Some retirees, some kids. No houses directly viewable from our house, but people are walking by the place often to go to the pond or other general community living, so it's not entirely private. Land has nice walking path through community woods.
