About this assignment

We are looking for a single person, or ideally a couple, coming from a farming background that has experience with livestock. An interest in organic / regenerative agriculture would be a plus.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Hello! We have a mixed regenerative farm with some sheep, a few cattle and a flock of pasture raised laying hens on Ireland’s wild Dingle Peninsula. On the farm is our new build home - a modern take on a traditional Irish farmhouse, home to our family of four plus Jack the dog (our spoiled working dog) and Kiwi and Pip the cats. We hope to get away for circa 2 - 2.5 weeks at the end of July / start of August and are looking for a capable house sitter(s) that would be competent in running our small working farm whilst we are away.

As a regenerative farm, we aim to farm in such a way that builds soil and increases biodiversity while at the same time producing nutrient dense food. All the animals on the farm have a role to play in helping us to add fertility back to the land.

Responsibilities will include looking after the sheep and cattle, and moving every few days onto fresh pasture with the help of Jack. We also have a vegetable garden and polytunnel that will require watering / weeding and eating.

The biggest responsibility comes in looking after roughly 300 laying hens. These hens are pasture raised, meaning they have a small mobile chicken house (the “Eggmobile”) that is moved every other day onto fresh pasture. In our absence we will transition to more of a traditional free range enterprise, leaving the mobile house stationary and giving the hens a large enclosed run. As such your responsibilities would include feeding and watering, checking the hens and of course collecting and packing their lovely eggs. Potentially as well a weekly delivery to our customers at a central meeting point in town (to be discussed).

Full training on all of the above can be provided, but someone with past experience with farming is required.

What are the good features of the property and location

- Brand new, modern house on Dingle Peninsula
- Beautiful beach walks nearby
- Mountain and forest to explore nearby
- Comfortable house with modern amenities
- great village with pubs and restaurants

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This is more than a house sitting opportunity as we also require someone to tend to our farm whilst we are away. Training in advance of our departure can be provided, but some level of farm experience or knowledge is essential.
