About this assignment
We are looking primarily for someone who loves animals and is willing to care for them in spite of their quirks. Additionally the person will need to enjoy privacy, quiet and seclusion.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Our primary concern is for the welfare of our animals: 15 year old dog, 2 13 year old cats, and 20 year old cockatiel. We are currently looking for someone to be here full time from May 19 through June 16, 2024. The end date is somewhat flexible if that will help you to decide.
Only some basic household chores, in addition to pet care, will need to be done, mow lawn, water houseplants, fill bird feeders, etc., possibly watering small vegetable garden, if I get it planted early.
We don't live in a mansion and we don't expect you to clean house, only clean up after yourself. We will leave a reasonably stocked fridge and pantry from which you are free to partake. While you are here, our house is your house; just leave it the way you found it.
What are the good features of the property and location
Our home is located on 118 acres and not visible from the dirt road so we enjoy privacy, solitude and natural surroundings. There is room to enjoy nature without leaving the property; we are reasonably close driving distance to some hiking trails, several ski slopes, and swimming areas. Plus we have nice neighbors if you need someone to talk to.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
We are located about 8 miles from town, at the top of a hill on a dirt road. Access to a vehicle is important if you want town amenities and don't want to walk or bike. Use of our vehicle is a possibility. Our internet service is not great but will adequately stream movies so is probably also sufficient for you to 'work from home' if that is a concern.
Our dog is old and she has some old dog issues for which she takes medicine. She does not like to be left home alone for long periods, but on the other hand, she will wait patiently in the car for hours. The cats and bird are an easy trio: feed us, talk to us, pet us, keep our space clean.

I was very glad to of had my own car as this beautiful retreat is about 8 miles to the closest grocery store and the home is located a mile and a half up a steep hill dirt road. When they left there were no questions unanswered and phone numbers for any type of help I might need. I was truly blessed as you will be if you are lucky enough to be chosen to do a sit here.
