About this assignment

Reliable person or couple or friends who love all kinds of animals. Experience is not strictly necessary as long as you want a break from pollution and noise and want to be a hobby farmer for the duration of your stay.
You can clean your busy mind and soul with fresh air, animal sounds and total silence during the night.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Our animals need to be fed and cared for twice a day, and a last check before the night.
So in the morning and evening, the rest of the day you are free to enjoy beautifull Correze..
We have one friendly border collie dog, 4 mostly inside cats. Outside we have 4 ponies, 4 donkeys and 4 goats. And not to forget 10 chickens for daily fresh eggs and sometimes a few chicks.

House sitter list of tasks involved:

Between 8 and 9 morning:

At home give cats and dog breakfast, let dog outside. Clean the littertray
Outside:
Feed chickens and goats, find your breakfast eggs and let chickens free.
Let donkeys and ponies in the meadow. (In the winter depending on the weather).

Muck out the ponies and donkeys (2 wheel barrows)
fill up water for all animals
Morning routine takes around 45 minutes.

Between 18.00 and 19.00:
Put hay out for ponies and donkeys
call donkeys and ponies into the stable

check for eggs, than feed chickens and let them into their enclosure.
Inside the house dog and cats gets food, check littertray.

Evening routine around 45 minutes

No need to do anything else, but for the gardeners, feel free to leave a lasting impression, Our first priority is our animals, ofcourse, after they are cared for you can do what you like stay at home or go out.
If you want to stay a few days longer without the care of animals, you are welcome and we can accommodate, it will be a simple bed and breakfast (for free). We are flexible when it comes to dates and how long, let us know what suits you and we might come to an agreement.

What are the good features of the property and location

Cosy house with fire place in a quiet location. You can hike for hours and are unlikely to meet anyone. We have cable internet at good speed. 5 Kilometer away is a lake with water sports and a restaurant and snackbar. The place is quiet and peaceful.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

It would be good if you have experience in caring for farm animals, or willing to learn. We make a list what needs to be done in which order so it can be done easily and efficiently. The animals know the routine, so if you for example call the chickens at the right time they come running and make themselves comfortable in their bedroom for the night. We do not have a television, but we have fast cable internet. Fresh eggs every day! Just feel at home and relax, incase there is a problem, you can call us day or night. If you have your own transport that is of course easiest, but it it possible to come by plane (Brive la Guillarde, (we will pick you up from there), or Bordeaux, Lyon, Toulouse after which you need a flixbus or Blablacar to go to Tulle, Egletons or any other town reasonable close by from where we pick you up. The closest shop is 5 km away in Marcillac-la-Croisille. It can be walked or cycled. We have also a neighbour who is happy to take you to the shop. We are looking for one week or longer in April or May. Let us know when you are available. We look forwards meeting you!

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

When was the last time you did something like this?

Wow, I never would've thought I'd have such a rad and awesome experience doing pet sitting. Being out in nature and hanging with animals is something every human should do at least once a year. And being in Nougein, chilling with Jeltje, Tariq, and all their critters, is something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime! I'll always remember waking up in the mornings and hugging the donkeys and ponies after feeding them =) So... When was the last time you hugged a massive, floppy-eared beast and felt its wet snout in your hand when you gave it a treat? I'm telling you... ... this is something everyone should do more often! Thanks again for letting me enjoy this experience. Thanks Tariq for being such an awesome chef! Thanks Jeltche for the endless talks about copywriting and sales! I highly recommend anyone wanting to disconnect from the city to head to Nougein for some fresh air, get their boots dirty, and hug, care for, and connect with the animals! See you later in Morroco!

Lovely stay at Jeltje & Tariq's place!

Jeltje & Tariq are both very open and welcoming people, very friendly and helpful. I was looking for some solitude and escape from my city life, to be in nature and focus on some important work I had to finish. Jeltje & Tariq were going to Spain to look for new housing, I ended up watching their place for over three weeks! When I arrived in Tulle, Jeltje picked me up and drove me to their cute French house in a small village called Nougein. They cooked for me and showed me how to take care of their animals for about three days; four cute donkeys, one very shy horse, two mischievous ponies, three impatient goats, three cuddly cats, one very sweet border collie, three funny turkeys, two ducks and thirteen chickens, one of which was called Patrick; beware of Patrick, he was VERY rude! My routine on the farm to care for the animals was usually like this: 8:00 – 9:00 Fill the troughs/nets for the donkeys, horses and goats with hay, lets the donkeys & goats out of their stable to their feeding troughs. Release & feed the birds, check for eggs! Usually there were a lot, and I put them out in the village to sell to neighbors. Between 13:00 – 15:00 Release the donkeys, horses & goats to their larger field (they all had separate ones), scoop up their feces/clean the stable floor, fill their troughs with water and hay for in the evening. This took me 1-2 hours because I liked to prepare for the evening in one go and sometimes I was very precise and started cleaning other things aswell, so really if you only do the necessary parts it would take you 45 minutes/1hour. 18:00 Bring all the animals back into their stables (their food was already prepped in the afternoon), throw some corn for the birds. 20:00 Check if the birds are all in bed and close their sheds, give the donkeys a second load of hay. That’s it! It was a nice routine to get into, sweet to take care of the animals. In the rest of my time I sat in Jeltje’s cute woodworking-shop to do my work, which overlooked the French countryside and mountains. It was very cosy to sit there with a small fire. There are no shops in Nougein, so Jeltje drove me to a supermarket beforehand to stock up on supplies and if I needed anything one of the neighbors was glad to take me, however it was never necessary. All in all, I had a nice time on their farm and experienced Jeltje and Tariq as very kind and helpful people, I’m very grateful for them! Definitely recommend staying here for the wonderful surroundings and the sweet animals!
